Lymphatic Drainage in Barcelona

The perfect tool to fight against fluid retention

Start healing today online

Lymphatic drainage massage is the perfect gentle technique to fight against fluid retention in your body as it stimulates the movement of the lymph fluids out of the tissues and back into the lymphatic vessels and improves circulation.

The lymphatic system helps to remove waste, bacteria, viruses and toxins by circulating protein rich lymph fluid through the body into the lymph nodes and vessels.  These act like a filter and flush them out of our body. It is an essential function to keep us healthy .

These fluids can build up in the tissues due to specific issues such as infections, cancer treatments when the lymph nodes have been removed, diseases like fibromyalgia, if the lymphatic system has been damaged, and the condition lymphedema where there is fluid retention often in the arms and legs.

It is the perfect type of massage to help with fat absorption, eliminate toxins and waste, and to better help the absorption of soluble vitamins that enter our digestive system and from there enter the blood.

You can trust our trained practitioners to guide you through this massage with care and thought using drainage techniques and methods developed for specific parts of the body.

Lymphatic Drainage massage Pre and Post Surgery

Mild stimulation and controlled movement during the process of lymphatic drainage massage activates the lymph vessels and the lymphatic system that circulates along with our veins and arteries, and encourages the immune system’s response to fight bacteria, viruses, and other substances.

By cleansing and optimising the body’s cellular environment it promotes healing and helps to reduce possible post surgery complications such as infection, scaring, excess swelling and bruising as well as aid recovery, reduce scar tissue and promote rapid healing.

The massage is also relaxing so it helps to calm the nervous system before and after surgery.

Several consecutive sessions leading up to your surgery will help to benefit your recovery.

Additional treatments are possible within days post surgery once the person is feeling up to it.

The massage is very gentle and should not cause pain.

Different surgeries that can benefit from having lymphatic drainage massage include:

  • Cancer treatment surgeries
  • Mastectomy
  • Lymphadenectomy – when lymph nodes have been removed
  • Reconstructive including breast and liposuction
  • Caesarean sections
  • Gynecological
  • Abdominal
  • Joint replacement surgery

What is Lymphedema?

Lymphedema is the swelling of the legs and arms due to a buildup of fluid. Your lymphatic system is part of your immune system and when there is blockages in this system due to disease, surgery or damage it stops the fluid from draining and this causes the swelling.

Symptoms of Lymphedema in your limb might include:

  • Thickening of your skin
  • Swelling including in the fingers and toes
  • Aching
  • Discomfort
  • Heaviness
  • Tightness
  • Difficulty to move the limb
  • Recurring infections

The range of symptoms can vary from mild to very severe and there is not any cure.

Cancer care and Lymphadema

It is important to note that Lymphadema after having cancer treatment sometimes does not occur until months or years after the treatment so regular manual lymphatic drainage massage is a recommended component of a treatment plan.

Lymphatic Drainage Technique

Our practitioner Javier González Bailón is trained in the Vodder Method

The Vodder Method is a manual technique that consists of mild and gentle pressures, slow and at a constant rate, which can be exerted throughout the body to purify and eliminate waste and fluid retention. It promotes poor circulation, heaviness or edema, as in cases of circulation disorders, post-surgery, or for heavy and swollen legs during pregnancy.

Being such a gentle technique, it is especially indicated to reduce painful cellulite and inflammation. It produces a relaxation effect, similar to a relaxing massage but with a much lower pressure. Therefore it is highly recommended in situations of stress or for hypersensitive skin, or with low pain tolerance, post surgical scars, or to recover tone and volume after delivery or caesarean section.
