Explaining a Colon Hydrotherapy Treatment

Colon Hydrotherapy

In case you do not know what Colon Hydrotherapy is, let us explain.

A Colon Hydrotherapy treatment is the practice of introducing a safe and gentle infusion of water into the large intestine to improve muscle tone and cleanse the colon. At Studio Australia Barcelona this is done via gravity feed in the presence of a professionally trained and experienced therapist.

It is best described as a hydro gym session for your insides!

Your  colon is a tube of ‘smooth’ muscle similar to your bladder or lungs that needs to be toned to stay in shape just like any other muscles of the body. These muscles move involuntarily to propel digested food through the colon.

If your colon is poorly toned this can lead to constipation, trapped wind (bloating), headaches, tiredness, poor skin, weight gain, bad breath and poor digestion.

Colon hydrotherapy is a treatment  to get your colon back in shape.

Colon Health

Your gut and your immune system

The gastrointestinal tract contains a substantial part of your immune system in the form of beneficial gut bacteria, which are at the front line in preventing harmful substances from entering the body.

If your colon becomes inflamed or swollen this increases the opportunity for harmful substances like neurotoxins and toxic waste products to cross the intestinal wall and enter the bloodstream.

Friendly Bowel Flora

Friendly bowel flora (commensal microbes) form part of the natural micro-flora of the digestive tract and require certain sanitary conditions to live and thrive.

Having a Colon Hydrotherapy treatment clears the internal environment of the large intestine, removing undesirable waste and paving the way for the repopulation of friendly flora.

In our clinic, we often see patients dealing with a range of mood and inflammatory disorders, such as:

  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Panic attacks
  • Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD)
  • Arthritis
  • Allergies
  • Eczema
  • Asthma

These conditions are increasingly recognised as being closely linked to inflammation, intestinal permeability, and an imbalance in the gut’s microflora.

Clients who have Irritable Bowel Syndrome, parasites, Lyme disease and chronic fatigue have also benefitted from our colon hydrotherapy treatments.

By addressing digestive health and gut function, we can support the body’s natural healing process, helping to alleviate these symptoms and improve overall well-being.

Our clinic also welcomes clients who have been requested by their health practitioner to have a colon hydrotherapy treatment as part of their preparation prior to having a colonoscopy.

BEFORE YOUR SESSION:

  • You will have a consultation to discuss your needs with our therapist.
  • After this you will prepare by undressing from the waist down, leaving your socks on if you prefer, and cover yourself with a provided towel.
  • Lie on the treatment bed on your back, ready to begin the procedure.

DURING THE TREATMENT:

  • You’ll start on your left side, knees drawn towards your chest.
  • A small, lubricated speculum is gently inserted into the anus, allowing water to enter the colon.
  • You’ll feel gentle pressure as the water fills the colon, but any discomfort can be communicated to your therapist.

FILLING, EMPTYING AND FLUSHING:

  • Water either fills, empties, or flushes the colon to remove waste.
  • Our specialist will guide you through the process, asking you to turn on your back once your body adjusts.

MASSAGE AND REFLEXOLOGY:

  • To help release trapped gas or stool, the therapist will massage your abdomen and apply reflexology techniques to your feet.

END OF TREATMENT:

  • After the treatment, the speculum is removed, and you’ll be asked to sit on the toilet to allow any remaining water or waste to pass naturally.

Your specialist therapist will guide you through every step, ensuring a comfortable and effective experience.
